TAMPA, FLORIDA – NOVEMBER 19, 2009: Checks totaling $24,000 were presented today to the families of two local law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty, or from injuries they suffered, by syndicated radio host Bubba the Love Sponge® Clem and representatives of local businesses that raised funds for the donations.

Checks for $12,000 each were presented at a noon event held at Stingray Chevrolet in Plant City, Florida to the families of Tampa Police Corporal Mike Roberts, who was killed in August during a confrontation with an armed suspect, and Polk County Sergeant Ronnie Brown, who died in September following complications from surgery after being wounded in an altercation with an inmate at South Polk County jail.

In attendance were Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd; Tampa Police Major Sophie Teague, who accepted on behalf of Cpl. Roberts’ widow, Cindy Roberts; Albertina Brown, widow of Sgt. Ronnie Brown; representatives from local businesses who contributed funds, including Stingray Chevrolet, The Car Store, Old Northeast Jewelers and Auto Trader; members of Florida Highway Patrol; and Tampa-based syndicated radio personality Bubba the Love Sponge®, whose Bubba the Love Sponge® Foundation initiated the fundraising effort and also contributed funds.

Speakers included Sheriff Grady Judd, Major Sophie Teague, Albertina Brown and Bubba the Love Sponge® Clem.

With today’s donation, the Bubba the Love Sponge® Foundation has raised a total of $50,000 in 2009 that has been donated to the families of fallen police officers. In September, checks totaling $26,000 were presented to the families of three area law enforcement officers who were injured or killed in the line of duty.
