Tyler on the Pole for A-Main

TYLER SITS ON THE POLE FOR THE AMAIN @ THE LITTLE 500!!!!!

Tyler and teammate Michael Atwell travel to New Smyrna quarter midget track for the 6th annual Little 500. Last year Tyler won the Jr Novice division and Last year Michael place 2nd in Jr Honda. This year both boys have moved up to even tougher competition, Tyler moved to the Jr. Honda division, and Michael to the Sr Honda and light 160 divisions. It was a tough day for Michael, and a early direct front end smashing of the wall put him and his crew behind the 8 ball with set ups as a complete front end and rear axle had to be replaced on Michael’s Sr Honda car. Michael was transferring quite nicely out of the lower mains in both classes on his way to the B and A mains when two different wrecks ended Michael’s racing weekend.

As one teammates luck wasn’t so good, the others was. Tyler had the racing luck/gods on his side for his first heat race of the day. The top 2 finishers transferred to the A-main. Tyler had his work cut out for him as he started 6th in a 8 car heat field. Tyler avoided several close calls and was running 2nd when the white flag dropped. Before the field entered into turn 1 for the last time, the leader spun out on his own, putting Tyler in first for a green white checkered finish. Tyler was able to hold off a few hard chargers to take the win, and start on the pole of the A-Main.

Tyler then sat on the pole for the Amain, with only 8 cars out of 24 making the Amain. Tyler did quite well as he was the youngest of all the racers. Tyler lead about 1/2 the race but track champion and 2 time Jr Honda Litte 500 winner Brennon Spence and hard charger Weston Williams were coming to the front fast. Weston got under Tyler with a few laps to go, and Tyler got hung out to dry on the high side to finish a respectable4th. Brennon and Weston went on to have a photo finish with Brennon winning by a few inches….. Michael and Tyler return to action on their home track Jan 24th in Tampa.
