Woman charged with running over man after stealing package
(BTLS Staff) WINTER HAVEN – A 42-year-old Winter Haven woman is facing a variety of charges stemming from a bizarre Christmas Eve incident in Polk County.
Marilyn ‘Dannette’ Deboer is being held without bond pending her first appearance before a judge. She is facing one count of unarmed burglary, one count of felony petit theft and one count of attempted murder.
According to a Polk County Sheriff’s Office report Deboer attempted to steal a package off a man’s porch in the 1400 block of Hidden Creek Lane in Winter Haven on December 24th. When the resident confronted the suspect Deboer attempted to run him over with her a gray-colored KIA Sportage.
Richard Lewis was hit by the front end of the vehicle and was thrown into the windshield. The victim suffered life-threatening injuries including trauma to the head and leg.
Investigators say the package that was taken by the suspect had been delivered by UPS just after 2 pm on Christmas Eve. The package contained a Christmas gift for Lewis’ daughter Katie Ingram.
At the time of this latest arrest Deboer was already on probation.
Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd spoke about the incident.
“Marilyn Deboer maliciously and intentionally ran over this victim in an attempt to take his life after stealing from him,” Judd explained. “She’s a dangerous felon with a criminal history and thanks to tips from the public and excellent police work, we were able to put her back in jail where she belongs.”
Deputies are still on the lookout for the vehicle Deboer as driving at the time of the crime. It is described as a gray-colored KIA Sportage with FL Tag – F22 1QV, with a black hood, minor front-end damage and a Plexiglas back window.
