Winter Haven boxing trainer arrested on drug trafficking charges
(BTLS Staff) WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – A well-known Winter Haven boxing trainer is in trouble with the law following his arrest Tuesday on drug charges.
Anthony Lyn Morgan, 43, is facing one count of trafficking in methamphetamine, one count of maintaining a vehicle for drug trafficking and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to a Polk County Sheriff’s Office report detectives with the department’s High Intensity Drug Trafficking unit met with the suspect Tuesday to conduct an undercover drug purchase.
Earlier in the day investigators arranged to meet Morgan in a public parking lot to purchase $10,000 worth of the illegal narcotic. The suspect arrived with approximately four ounces of meth – street value of $6,400.
Morgan stated earlier he would bring 10 ounces. The drug was packaged in a plastic bag, inside a disposable plastic cub with a lid. When he was placed in custody the suspect immediately asked for an attorney.
Morgan has one prior brush with law enforcement in Polk County. In 2013 he was charged with failure to appear in court for a driving-related offense.
Among the boxers Morgan has trained, Andre Michael Berto – a Haitian-American who won the Welterweight championship on two occasions.
His facility is called the Morgan Training Concepts Inc.
