Unidentified man struck and killed by Amtrak Train near Davenport

The incident occurred at approximately 2 pm in the city limits of Davenport.

(BTLS Staff) DAVENPORT, Fla. An unidentified man was struck and killed by an Amtrak passenger train near Davenport on Monday.

The incident occurred at approximately 2 pm near the intersection of Bargain Barn Rd. and US Highway 17-92.

According to a Polk County Sheriff’s Office report the train was comprised of 10 passenger cars and two engines. It was traveling at 50 miles per hour when it struck the deceased standing on the tracks.

Officers with the Davenport Police Department responded to the scene after receiving several 9-1-1 calls. The train was traveling south and the conductor blew the horn repeatedly while applying the brakes.

The man – who has not yet been identified – did not respond to the horn.

The roadway was closed for about an hour as investigators collected evidence and spoke to potential witnesses.
