Texas mom says teacher called her daughter stupid, mentally retarded
(Click2Houston.com) MISSOURI CITY, Texas – The mother of a fifth-grader at Lexington Creek Elementary School is speaking out about an incident she said happened in her daughter’s classroom.
When Tameka Eugene heard about it, she said it broke her heart.
“She called her mentally retarded and that she was stupid,” Eugene said.
Eugene’s 10-year-old daughter, Morgan, said the comments hurt her feelings and made her feel embarrassed in front of her peers.
“If there’s a teacher in the school system who is making a child feel less than themselves and that they can’t be successful, then this is not the profession for them. They don’t need to be teaching,” Eugene said.
According to Eugene, this wasn’t the only incident. Earlier in the school year she said the teacher held up one of Morgan’s tests and announced to the class she has failed.
“She was mad at me and said, ‘You’re stupid,’” Morgan Eugene told Channel 2 News.
Morgan, according to her mom, suffers from attention deficit disorder and struggles in school. She has spoken to the principal and said administrators are looking into the allegations.
The school district said in a statement, “Fort Bend ISD is aware of alleged inappropriate remarks made by a Lexington Creek Elementary teacher.
As a District, we share concerns regarding this incident, and want to assure the community we take all allegations involving our staff members very seriously. After the completion of an administrative investigation, appropriate action will be taken.”
“If she’s doing that to my child, I’m pretty sure that it’s happened to other children,” Eugene said.
Morgan has been moved to another classroom and her mom said after only two days she saw a huge improvement in her daughter’s behavior and attitude and the fifth-grader is “excited” about learning again.
