Teen accidentally shoots self while trying to scare ex-girlfriend
(KTLA.COM) FRESNO, Calif. – A teenager accidentally shot himself in the leg Sunday morning with a rifle he was allegedly using to try to scare his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend in Fresno, police said.
The incident took place outside a home in the area of South Woodrow and East Woodward avenues (map) at about 1:30 am., the Fresno Police Department posted on their Facebook page.
The teenager, who was not identified by police, allegedly took out a .22 caliber rifle after he noticed his ex-girlfriend’s car parked in front of the home and fired about 6 rounds into the air before the gun jammed, police stated.
As he tried to clear the rifle he accidentally shot himself in the leg.
The teen was allegedly trying to scare his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend, who were inside the home at the time of the shooting, investigators stated.
The teen was treated for his injuries and then booked into Fresno County Juvenile Hall on suspicion of endangering the public.
