Tarpon Springs Police officer shot and killed; suspect in custody

A report issued by the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office states the shooting occurred just before 3 am near the city's sponge docks.

(BTLS Staff) TARPON SPRINGS – An officer with the Tarpon Springs Police Department was shot and killed early Sunday.

The incident occurred just before 3 am near the 200 block of Grand Blvd. within the Tarpon Springs city limits. A suspect is in custody but the name of the individual has not been released.

According to a Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office report the identity of the officer is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The shooting happened a few blocks from the sponge docks.

No other information is available at this time as the investigation continues.
