PETERSBURG (wtvr)- Petersburg police arrest a man accused of hitting a former co-worker on the head with a pipe and setting her on fire Tuesday morning.

Neighbors at the Petersburg East apartment complex tell CBS 6 Senior Reporter Wayne Covil they saw a former complex maintenance worker this morning talking to a leasing agent.

They say the man was upset over losing his job.

At one point during the conversation witnesses say the man hit the woman on the head and set her on fire.

As neighbors rushed to help the woman, the man ran off.

Neighbors identified him to police as a regular bus rider.

She is listed in serious but stable condition at the hospital.
