Woman: Man Drove Up, Grabbed My Butt

February 1st, 2010 by

RIDGELAND, Miss. — Police in Ridgeland, Miss., said a man has been driving around and grabbing women’s butts, Jackson television station WAPT reported.
Debbie Thweatt said she was walking out of a Walmart on Tuesday when a man drove up to her and grabbed her butt.
“He grabbed me, and I was looked into his eyes. He had no expression on his face and didn’t open his mouth,” Thweatt said.
The suspect drove away in a white car but Thweatt wrote down his license plate number and called police. Minutes after Thweatt reported the incident, another woman said a man grabbed her butt in the Northpark Mall parking lot.
“If I hadn’t come forward, this would just keep on and on and on. One crime leads to another crime, and it could’ve escalated into someone being sexually assaulted or raped,” Thweatt said.
“We’re not sure if it was a sexual gratification-type touch, or if he was actually trying to rob her and grab her purse,” Lt. John Neal said.
But Thweatt said her purse was hidden under several grocery bags.
“Even if I had a purse on me, I don’t carry it on my butt,” Thweatt said.
Thweatt admits some people have made jokes about her story.
“It’s not a funny matter. I had someone say to me, ‘Well, just look at it as a compliment.’ Well, that’s not a compliment to me. I can do without those kinds of compliments,” Thweatt said.
Police said Thweatt did exactly what she should have done by remembering as many details as possible about the man and reporting it to police.
