Woman jumps out of car after seeing spider, causing crash with 9-year-old inside
An Indiana woman jumped out of her car when she became frightened by a spider, leading to a crash that injured her 9-year-old son, reports say.
USA Today reports the crash occurred on Friday near Syracuse, Indiana. Angela Kipp, 35, of Syracuse, was backing her Dodge Avenger out her driveway with her 9-year-old son in the backseat when she noticed a spider on her shoulder.
The Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department says the startled Kipp jumped from the vehicle, which was still in reverse, according to ABC News.
Her son climbed into the front seat and tried to hit the brake pedal, but instead hit the gas. The car collided with a passing school bus, which had no passengers on board, the sheriff’s department said. The bus driver was uninjured.
The boy had minor head injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
“It’s incredible that it wasn’t more tragic,” sheriff’s department First Sgt. Chad Hill tells ABC News.
The accident is under investigation and there are no reports of charges against Kipp.
