Woman has finger bitten off

TOLEDO, Ohio (WUPW) - Carrie Gill of Toledo is missing part of her right index finger after trying to break up a fight between her daughter and her daughter’s boyfriend on New Year’s night.

While she stopped the fight, she also got a scar that will last a lifetime.

Robert Boone is being charged with felony assault by Toledo police after allegedly biting off Gill’s finger. She says Boone has a history of abuse, and she’s saying enough is enough.

“I don’t want to see her go through the abuse he’s putting her through,” Gill said. “She’s my daughter. I love her.”

When Gill, her daughter, and her daughter’s boyfriend, headed out to Lil’ Sheba’s Bar on Alexis Road on Saturday night, she was hoping for a normal night. After leaving the bar, she says Boone started hitting his girlfriend, Gill’s oldest daughter.

She stepped in, and that’s when she says Boone bit her.

“When I went to grab him, I felt him bit my finger,” Gill said. “But I didn’t know until I looked a few seconds later that it was actually gone. Part of it was gone.”

Two days after the incident, she still can’t believe that he bit her finger off.

“You hear of dogs biting people, even rabid animals, but not human beings,” Gill said.

Gill recently started a new job, doesn’t have health insurance, and doctors say she will need plastic surgery to repair the damage. She also says she can’t go to work, and she’s afraid she’ll lose her job.

Still, her biggest fear is that Boone, who remains at-large, will hit her daughter again.

“I fear for her life,” she said.

Gill has seen this before. She says she was in a 12-year abusive relationship, and she says her daughter is walking down a dangerous path.

“You cover up for the abuser, and you don’t press charges,” she said. “You love them, you think you love them.”

Gill’s hoping that Boone will get what’s coming to him.

“I hope there is a consequence for him, because I’m without a finger for the rest of my life,” she said.

Gill is supposed to see a specialist on Wednesday. That’s when she’ll find out just how bad the damage to her right index finger is.

Detectives are still searching for Boone. If you know anything, call Crimestopper at 419-255-1111. You can remain anonymous.
