Woman Clings to Life After Parasailing Accident on Clearwater Beach

CLEARWATER | A Georgia woman injured Sunday afternoon in a parasailing accident off Clearwater Beach remained in critical condition Monday afternoon, according to Bayfront Medical Center.

Alejandra White, 27, suffered life-threatening injuries after she was dragged behind the parachute, through beach umbrellas and into a post on a volleyball court.

Bay News 9 incorrectly reported Sunday that she had died.

Her fiance, Shaun Ladd, suffered minor injuries in the accident after he plunged into the water.

A Coast Guard spokeswoman said the reason the tether detach

ed from the boat is being investigated with the help of Clearwater police and other agencies.

A National Weather Service meteorologist said winds were gusting up to 30 knots on Clearwater Beach at the time of the accident. Thunderstorms were in the area as well.
