Watch Out, Green Day Is Back And Heading For The Top With Gun Protest

Veteran punk rockers Green Day are back and ready for a new assault on the charts. They are already heading for the top spot in the U.K., with the prospect of more countries likely to follow.

With the trio’s usual appetite for controversy, they are among rockers weighing into the political debate as the U.S. Presidential Election campaign enters its closing phases.

Among many, Alice Cooper is rolling out his song “Election” one more time, Ted Nugent has spoken up for guns – and now Green Day replies with a little bit of firearms-bashing on “Bang Bang.” The single is off Revolution Radio, the Reprise album currently leading the U.K. chart at its “midweek stage.” Since appearing on Oct. 7, the album has garnered combined chart sales of 24,000 in Britain, some 13,000 ahead of its nearest rival, by fellow American rock group Alter Bridge on Napalm Records. It looks set to be Green Day’s third British chart-topping album, after American Idiot in 2004 and 21st Century Breakdown in 2009.
