Vuvuzela Will Not Be Banned

Source: AttackingSoccer — World Cup 2010 organizing committee spokesman Rich Mkhonda today completely ruled out a ban of the noisy Vuvuzela, stating that the rest of the world should “accept and embrace the culture of the country.” If you are not sure what a Vuvuzela is, it is a plastic horn used to make the annoying buzzing sound you hear when you are watching any of this summers World Cup games. The noise sounds like a swarm of bees, and has completely taken away from the unique atmosphere created at any soccer game. Mkhonda finished his press conference by stating “you either love them or hate them – and we love them!”

My personal opinion is that they should be banned, they take away from the noise of fans actually shouting and celebrating when goals are scored. Add to this the fact that fans ears are left buzzing for hours after leaving the stadium and it really becomes a headache. France captain Patrice Evra complained this week about the noise, stating that his team struggled to communicate due to the loud pitched sound.I have also had conversations with new football fans who state they just can’t get into watching games because of the continuous buzzing heard during the games.
