Tow truck driver finds baby in car
TAMPA, FL — A Tampa tow truck driver got the surprise of his life when he towed an unregistered car from a parking lot. A 1-year-old baby was left inside the parked car.
The baby’s father, Edward Riley, was charged with child neglect and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail.
According to a Tampa police report, “TPD received a call from Certified Impound … in reference to them towing a vehicle from the listed address to their impound lot. When they checked the vehicle at their lot, the wrecker driver discovered the victim sleeping and buckled in a car seat, which was in the back seat of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed for being an unregistered vehicle parked at the apartment complex.”
The report goes on to say, “Mr. Riley stated that he was visiting a relative very quickly at the complex and failed to observe the wrecker hooking up to his vehicle or towing away his vehicle.
A friend of Mr. Riley called the towing company due to his familiarity of the towing policy at the complex and discovered that the towing company did have the child and that they had immediately called the police.
Approximately 12 minutes had lapsed from the time that the vehicle had been towed, to the time that the wrecker arrived at their lot. It is unknown on how long that the child had been left in the car prior to the towing of the vehicle.”
