Threats Follow Slaughtered Squirrels In Mailbox

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. — Marcia Cogdill made a gruesome discovery in her mailbox on Saturday that preceded several threatening text messages, deputies said.
“Every time I check from now on, I’ll be scared,” said Cogdill.
Spartanburg County deputies said the woman opened her mailbox in the 300 block of Jordan Road in Lyman and found the carcasses of two squirrels that had been cut open. The woman said that there was an egg broken on top of the dead squirrels. She said she cleaned up the mess, but did not call police at that time.
“It was sick. I don’t know how someone could do that to an animal,” said Cogdill.

On Sunday, the woman’s daughter received a phone text from a phone with a Washington, D.C., area code saying, “How did you like the surprise in your mailbox?”
The daughter responded asking who was texting, and got the text reply: “There is more to come.” The woman called the Sheriff’s Office to file a complaint. She said they received another text saying: “Oh you know what you did.”
The woman told deputies she has no idea who is texting her daughter.
Cogdill said the family plans to press charges. The case is being investigated as harassment and possibly stalking.
