This Giant Alligator Is The Most Terrifying Golf Course Hazard

A lot of people think golf is a boring sport. We’ve tried to speed up the game, liven it up with some booze and high-speed golf cart chases that end in blazes of glory, but the real secret to making golf interesting may not lie in the hands of us Homo sapiens at all.

The Buffalo Creek Golf Course has apparently clued into this fact by recruiting what may be the most terrifying mascot in sports history. A giant gator that’s been roaming the grounds of the small course in Florida for years has recently become a local attraction for residents and tourists in the area. Believed to be nearly 16-feet long, the monstrous reptile peacefully wandering the green has caused the tiny course to see a spike in business.

“People have heard that he is out here and that is all they want to see so they will bring spectators to ride so somebody can get a picture,” shop clerk Wendy Schofield told a local news station. “He doesn’t bother anybody and they don’t bother him, he’s like a mascot for the course.”

Photos of the gator posted on Facebook and Twitter show just how large he (or she) actually is — like Jurassic Park large. Visitors don’t seem to think the animal poses any kind of threat to them. That could be because this is Florida where man-eating reptiles are no big deal or because this is a golf course probably filled with old people with terrible vision problems. Either way, this is the most interesting thing to happen to the sport of golf in a long time.
