LAKELAND, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) – Lakeland Police have arrested a teenager they say stabbed a man 30 times during a robbery. Noel Cruz-Diego, 14, was arrested early Wednesday morning.

Investigators say Cruz-Diego had broken into a home in the county, and deputies were looking for him, when Lakeland Police got a call about a burglary in progress in the city limits. They say Cruz-Diego broke into a home in the 300 block of Dawn Street, and a man inside the home confronted him.

According to Lakeland Police, Cruz-Diego stabbed the man 30 times, took his wallet and fled from the house. Police later arrested him, but it was not immediately clear when and where.

The victim had life-threatening wounds to his chest. Paramedics took him to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, where he is in critical condition.

Cruz-Diego faces a felony attempted murder charge and home invasion/burglary charges.

“He does a lengthy record, and I expect he just wanted to get away,” said Lakeland police spokesman Jack Gillen.
