TAMPA – A Tampa man was arrested Tuesday night after he allegedly threw a 16-month-old boy, causing him to hit his head on a wall or dresser.

23-year-old Dwayne Poole, whose relationship to the boy has not been disclosed, was punishing him for playing near an electrical wall socket, Tampa Police spokesperson Andrea Davis said in a statement.

Poole also admitted to police that he hit the baby with an open hand and a belt, which caused bruising on the boy’s buttocks and legs.

The boy was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where doctors found a skull fracture that caused brain bleeding.

According to doctors, the boy appears to be brain dead with minimal chance of survival.
