ROYAL OAK, Mich. (CNN/WDIV) - Police outside Detroit were searching for Thomas Snowden in connection with a stolen gun incident and drunken driving. But when he ran into a gas station after crashing his rental car, police say he made a critical error.

They say instead of calling the cab company, he called 911.

Here is an excerpt of his call:

Dispatch: “Royal Oak 911, what’s your emergency?”
Caller: “Yes, I would like a cab. This is not the cab number is it?”

Dispatch: “No, this is 911.”
Caller: “Oh, I’m sorry.”

Dispatch: “That’s OK. What you need a cab for?”
Caller: “For um, Washington.”

Police say they should really thank Snowden for making their job easier. He now faces several charges.
