Suspect arrested in Tarpon Springs robbery, stabbing

May 24th, 2011 by Staff — Tarpon Springs police officers arrested a suspect tonight in a robbery and stabbing at a pharmacy this afternoon.

Roy Robert Blair, 30, of Holiday, was arrested after police searched for him for more than five hours.

A man who was outside the business when the armed robbery took place was detained and helped to identify the suspect, police said.

Blair walked into Anclote Pharmacy, 1933 N. Pinellas Ave., at around 4:15 p.m. brandishing a knife and demanding pills from a clerk who was helping a woman at the front desk, police said.

Blair jumped over the counter and stabbed the clerk in the neck, police said.

The clerk, identified as Jordan Bennett, 23, of Tampa, got Blair onto the counter and the pharmacy owner hit Blair with a baseball bat, police said.

Blair appeared to surrender but then he gouged Bennett’s eyes, police said. Blair ran out of the store. Bennett chased after him but couldn’t catch him.

Bennett, who sustained serious injuries, was taken by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg. He is doing well and being treated for his injuries, police said.

Blair eventually was found in a ditch in a wooded area not far from the pharmacy. Police said he was wearing just his underwear when they arrested him.
