Stephanie Ragusa asks for indigence in court today

November 17th, 2009 by

Tampa, Florida (channel10)- The cost of criminal defense is high. Just ask Stephanie Ragusa. Her attorney filed papers this morning to have her declared indigent.

Attorney Robert Herce told the judge it’s “for the purposes of cost.” Judge Wayne Timmerman signed the order which puts the taxpayers on the hook for her defense, but not necessarily her attorney’s fees.

Hiring experts, investigators, copies of documents are the types of hard costs that are covered.

Ragusa was first arrested on March 13th of 2008 after deputies say she had sexual contact with 2 Davidsen Middle school students, where she taught math.

Facing multiple counts of lewd and lascivious behavior charges she was released on bail. While out of jail, prosecutors say she went to the home of one of her victims to discuss the pending charges.

A detective coming to the home to interview the 15-year-old discovered Ragusa getting into her boyfriends pickup truck. She was arrested after the male victim confessed to investigators the two had just had sex.

She has since remained in jail without bond.

It seems the lightest criminals get the biggest rap while the hardest criminals walk. That’s not justice. This whole issue of Stephanie is Peyton Place compared to the really dangerous criminals no one seems to worry about at all, such as murderers and bank robbers. Stephanie didn’t rob a bank nor did she murder anyone. She has no intention to harm anyone nor did she ever in this matter.

As long as there is this imbalance of justice there is always going to be an escalation in violent crimes, that is primairily because Law enforcement is focusing way too much and dwelling way too long on nonviolent offences where people need to keep their noses out of, instead of prying into the private businesses of others only for she sake of juicy gossip.
