Staten Island Father Shoves Naked Son Into Oven

At Love Our Children USA, we sadly hear heartbreaking stories about children being abused every day. Some are more difficult to deal with than others and some defy belief.

As reported in the news, 52-year-old James Moss of Staten Island was arrested yesterday for allegedly forcing his 9-year-old naked son into an unlit oven. Court papers said the child, named Christopher, had rummaged through his father’s wallet and Moss responded by saying: “I’m going to burn you alive.” He was also accused of burning the boy’s hands over the burner of the stove for two minutes.

According to the office of District Attorney Daniel Donovan in Staten Island, this nightmare began Wednesday at about 9 p.m. inside the family’s townhouse apartment at 40 Regal Walk.

Christopher, a student at PS 22 in Graniteville, was not hurt in the oven because it was not on, but he suffered second and third-degree burns on his hands from the burner. Court papers say his father also slapped him in the face, hit him with a spatula and dragged him across the floor. That however does not account for the incredible emotional damage that this child has suffered and will for years to come.

The boy’s mother allegedly said nothing as she drove into their garage Friday. James Moss is facing charges of assault and endangering the welfare of a child which in our opinion does not seem nearly enough.

The manager of the gated community said Moss who stands 6’3″ and weighs 270 lbs., is a quiet man and when they bought the condo only registered he and his wife – never a child.

The City’s Department of Correction Website reveals that James Moss didn’t post his $15,000 bail or bond and was remanded to Rikers Island, yet WCBS said that Moss is out on bail. The case is being investigated by the Staten Island Special Victims Squad.

The Administration for Children’s Services is now investigating. Regardless of ACS’s findings it is clear that this man’s parental rights must be terminated, as well as serving a very lengthy jail sentence.

Family member and neighbors alike – if you see something – if you even suspect something – REPORT IT!
