Soldier Killed During Parachute Jump at VA Fort

March 5th, 2010 by – A soldier has died during a parachute training jump at Fort Lee in Petersburg.

The soldier with the 23rd Quartermaster Brigade died shortly after 11 a.m. Thursday after he became tangled in a power line near the base’s landing zone. The soldier had parachuted from a UH60 Blackhawk at an altitude of approximately 1,500 feet.

A Fort Lee spokesman said it is not known if the soldier died from the impact or was electrocuted. Power was cut so the soldier could be retrieved.

The victim’s name has not been released.
