Sleepy trucker was watching porn when he killed driver, troopers say

www.syracuse.com – A trucker was working on little sleep and watching pornography on a computer when he caused an accident that killed a mother of two on the State Thruway near Buffalo, police said Wednesday.
The trucker was charged this week with manslaughter for causing the Dec.12 crash that killed Julie Stratton, 33.
Stratton’s car was stuck in the highway after she hit a deer. The tractor-trailer driven by Thomas Wallace, 45, of Ohio crashed into car, killing her.
Wallace had been driving for over 27 hours, troopers said, and had been operating on only about four hours of sleep at the time of the accident.
Wallace was watching pornographic movies on a computer on his lap at the time of the crash, troopers said. He also was operating the tractor trailer while keeping fictitious log books, state police said.

Wallace was interviewed by investigators Tuesday and made admissions, the state police said.

the porn part of the story i agree that he should’ve not been doing. but as far as the ficticious log, we as drivers have no choice but to lie on the logs. sometimes the law requires that we stop and sleep but what if we are not tired? its not like we have an ON OFF switch. how would you like to be told when youre tired. the logs are b.s. LET US STOP WHEN WE FEEL TIRED

Remember to have a class A is a privilage!!!!!!!!! The law states only drive for 11 hours,so why push it.Stop at the first Truck Stop and Eat,play video games,or get yourself a “LOT LIZARD”. There is no reason to drive for 27 Hours.

Omar, you are an idiot. I am an owner/operator and make very good money and I have never lied on a log book. There is no need to. I drive 8-10 hours a day, take my 10, then get up and do it all again. I never run out of hours, never tired, oh yeah, I am only 25. Funny that us youger drivers are the ones being safer.

I agree with TC. There are too many super truckers out there giving us,safe careful drivers, a bad rap.
