Shannon Burke In Court Trying To Avoid Trial

October 8th, 2009 by

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Former radio personality Shannon Burke was in court Wednesday morning. His attorneys say they will do everything to keep him from going to trial.

Burke is accused of shooting his wife and their dog during an argument earlier this year. His lawyer said they will not reveal details, but they are working on an agreement to keep Burke from going to trial.

Shannon Burke has told Eyewitness News that he was going back on the air. He was fired in May after being accused of shooting his wife and dog.

Burke told Eyewitness News Wednesday after the hearing that he and his wife, Catherine Burke, have reconciled despite a court order to have no contact with each other.

Jail time may have changed Burke for the better.

“Decided to pay the price and became a totally different person,” Catherine Burke said.

“I feel great, looking forward to getting back on the air,” Burke said.

“How are things with your wife?” WFTV reporter George Spencer asked.

“Fantastic, better than ever,” Burke replied.

Shannon Burke admitted that he is an alcoholic. Police say alcohol played a part in the night of the incident with his wife.

Burke’s next hearing is scheduled for November 4, at which time they hope to have the agreement completed. Until the agreement is handed to the judge, Burke continues to face two felony charges that carry as much as 20 years in prison.
