Sex Offender Dressed As Cookie Monster Arrested

August 11th, 2011 by Staff — Police in Iowa arrested a registered sex offender dressed as Cookie Monster who was greeting children at a county fair.

James Rogers, 25, of Davenport, Iowa, was not allowed to work or volunteer at the Mississippi Valley Fair in Davenport, Iowa, because children were present, authorities told The Associated Press.

He was arrested Friday and charged with sex offender-employment violation. He registered as a sex offender in Scott County about a year ago, authorities told the AP.

Rogers, who was wearing a full costume of the popular Sesame Street character, was handing out fliers and was having his picture taken with kids, Scott County sheriff’s Detective Peter Bawden said.

He was detained after he said “hello” to a law enforcement officer who was working as an off-duty security officer at the fair, Bawden said. The officer, a parole and probation officer and member of the Scott County Sex offender Task Force, recognized the man’s voice and asked who he was, Bawden said.

Rogers was identified when he took off the Cookie Monster head.
