Police: Son Burns Mother To Death

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. — A police officer fatally shot a man accused of setting his mother on fire and killing her, breaking into a house, stealing a public works truck and leading police on a chase through two counties on Monday afternoon, according to investigators.

According to police, the incident began at a home near 142nd Street and Northwest Third Avenue in northwestern Miami-Dade County at about noon. Police said 24-year-old Clifford Sheldon McLean got into a dispute with his 47-year-old mother and his father.

Investigators said McLean attacked his father and then set his mother, Cutie Lyn McLean, on fire, burning her to death. McLean fled his home and then broke into a home around the corner, a resident said.

“When he entered the house, he had one hand behind his back and he told my parents to give him the keys or else he was going to kill them. So they were not sure what was behind his back, and my mom said the look on his face was so devilish and he was covered in blood and had no shoes on,” said Angela Maestre, who said McLean robbed her parents in the house.

Police said McLean fled that house in a stolen public works truck. His final stop was at University Drive and Sheridan Street in Pembroke Pines, where police said he realized he could run no more.

“When the occupant or the driver of that vehicle saw that he had nowhere to go, he got out. There was an altercation in the street with another vehicle. The officer got out. There was an altercation. Shots were fired by our officer,” said Sgt. John Grazzano of the Pembroke Pines Police Department.
Pembroke Pines police said McLean was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Police continue to investigate the incident.
