Police: Mother Fatally Stabs Her 2 Sons

SAN ANTONIO (KSAT)– Police on Wednesday were investigating the stabbing deaths of two small boys, ages one and three, whom police believe were killed by their mother.
At 5 p.m. Tuesday, police responded to a 911 call for a stabbing in the 100 block of Weizmann Boulevard and found Elyse Colon, 22, leaning against a fence.
“She said to the officer when he walked up, ‘I just killed my babies,’” said Chief William McManus.
When officers eventually got into the house, having to force their way in through a locked door, they found Colon’s sons, Guillermo Garcia, 1, and Jose Luis Garcia, 3, lying next to each other in a bedroom, both stabbed to death.
“Words can’t describe the scene,” said Chief McManus. “It was unspeakably sad.”
“They can’t speak for themselves, they can’t defend themselves,” added neighbor Angelica Puentes. “They’re very vulnerable right now and she just took advantage of that for whatever reason, I don’t know.”
Colon was described by neighbors as someone who kept to herself. Often seen walking along the street with her kids, Colon never spoke to any of them.
“She didn’t socialize with any of us,” said Puentes.
“She would walk up and down the street, like she didn’t know where she was going or she was in a trance,” said another neighbor who asked not to be identified.
Just as shocking as the news was for the neighbors, Colon’s demeanor as police led her away was just as unsettling.
“She was not unstable, she was rather calm when the officers were talking to her,” said Chief McManus.
“She had no expression on her face,” said the anonymous resident. “Real somber, maybe she didn’t know what she did.”
Police said they knew of no prior reports of child abuse or related calls to the home but there have been visits there for domestic violence calls. Those calls, said McManus, involved altercations between the parents. The childrens’ father, who is in the country illegally, is currently in jail.
