PHOENIX (www.kpho.com)– A man is dead after he shot at someone and barricaded himself inside a strip club early Monday morning, authorities said.
According to police, the man, whose name is not being released yet, paid for private dances at the Lacy Club near 27th Avenue and Osborn Street.
“He got upset with the dancer and he actually left. Then he turned around … and he came back, and that’s when he accosted the employee and attempted to rob the business,” said Detective James Holmes of the Phoenix Police Department.
The two dancers and a manager inside the club escaped to the roof and tried to run to safety. Police said the suspect opened fire on the manger. That’s when police fired back and the suspect retreated inside the club, police said.
At one point, he lit a small fire and activated the sprinkler system, Holmes said.
He was taken into police custody after about an hour, and he was pronounced dead shortly after, authorities said.
Police said the suspect died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. There is no evidence any of the shots fired by police hit the man.
