Police: Baby Sitter Leaves Kids, Pets In Car With Windows Up
LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. — Police in Southwest Florida said a baby sitter left two children and two pets in a car with the windows rolled up on a hot afternoon while she got a facial at a salon.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, a passer-by noticed the 6-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl in the car Saturday afternoon.
The children were treated at a hospital for heat stress and released. County animal control officers took the pets.
Deputies said the children’s 22-year-old baby sitter had been in the salon about 45 minutes. She told investigators that she had left the car’s air conditioning on, but deputies said the vehicle wasn’t running when the passer-by spotted the children.
The Lehigh Acres woman was arrested and charged with culpable negligence.
