Pinellas Business Raided for Gambling

TARPON SPRINGS – The Pinellas Sheriff’s Office busted a suspected illegal internet gambling operation in Tarpon Springs Thursday.

Detectives seized 42 computers, $1500, and a “Sweepstakes” bus from Enless Fun Entertainment and Cyber Center on U.S. 19 North.

Several patrons arrived throughout the afternoon and evening shocked to see their usual entertainment spot closed.

“My husband hit the jackpot so I don’t understand why it was considered illegal. They actually give their jackpot away,” Sandy Smith said.

Six patrons inside at the time of the bust were free to go.

“It’s a business which they obviously were coming out to do what they thought was okay and … the burden falls on the owners, who are running the business,” said Cecilia Barreda, spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office.

The owners were not inside when detectives arrived. Charges against them are pending.
Those at a neighboring business said “Enless Fun” stayed busy.

“All, all, all elderly people, from 10 till close that was all that would go in there. All elderly people,” said Janis Altman, manager of Stix Billiards.

Patrons told FOX 13 they usually put down $10 or $20 to play for hours.

“I know people who won $3,000 and $800 and that was nice for them, but I didn’t see anything wrong with it,” said one woman who didn’t want to be identified.

Smith says she had no idea Enless Fun was illegal. She and her husband bet for the past three months, sometimes going home with winnings. Her luck has run out.

“That’s the only thing I have to do all day. I’m retired with nothing to do. What do you do in this area? There’s absolutely nothing.”

No arrests have been made. Possible charges against the owners are operating a gambling house and possession of gambling equipment.
