Officials: Man Tries Smuggling Kilo Of Cocaine
ORLANDO, Fla. – A man attempted to smuggle a kilogram of cocaine through security at at Orlando International Airport on Friday, according to officials.
It all started when a federal drug dog picked 54-year-old Barratt Eni out of line inside the airport. Officials said he was trying to catch a Virgin Atlantic flight to London.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents searched him, and his bag, but found nothing.
Agents then took Eni to the Solantic walk-in clinic at the airport where he consented to an x-ray of his abdomen and pelvis. The images came back showing large pellets running through his digestive tract, according to officials.
Eni was rushed to Orlando Regional Medical Center. According to ICE investigators, Eni admitted he was a drug mule and had swallowed more than 50 packets full of cocaine. Agents said the regular scanners wouldn’t pick up anything like that. That’s why they needed the medical x-ray to see the drugs.
Doctors at ORMC warned Eni he could die. He was able to excrete some packets, but all the others had to be removed surgically.
Eni was arrested and booked into the Orange County jail.
