Oakland Man Says Pregnant Fiancée Shot Self In Stomach

PITTSBURGH — A pregnant Pittsburgh woman is hospitalized after police said she may have shot herself in the stomach during an argument with her fiancée.
Authorities said Nicole Lashuk, 26, suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen Tuesday evening at a home along Juliet Street in the city’s Oakland neighborhood.
Police said Lashuk, who is seven months pregnant, had been arguing with her boyfriend, Sean Liddle.
Liddle said Lashuk loaded a handgun and pointed it at her head before pointing it at her abdomen. He said he was trying to take the gun from her when it fired.
“I told her, ‘Put the gun down before you hurt yourself.’ By the time I got up to hit her hand, the gun went off through her upper stomach and out her side of her stomach,” said Liddle.
The .40-caliber gunshot went right through Lashuk’s abdomen, apparently missing the 7-month-old fetus inside.
Police said that when they arrived, the victim was conscious and even walked herself out to the ambulance. She was taken to UPMC Mercy Hospital in good condition.
Two young children were in the house at the time of the shooting and were not injured, police said. Authorities said Lashuk could face charges if they determine she tried to harm the fetus.
Police are testing for gunpowder residue on both people involved to determine who actually fired the gun.
