Nearly 400 Bikers Roll Out for Family of Fallen Deputy

August 29th, 2011 by Staff– Motorcyclists in New Port Richey showed support Saturday for the family of fallen Hernando County Sheriff’s Deputy John Mecklenburg as nearly 400 bikers and law enforcement officers rode together.

The ride, organized by the Bubba the Love Sponge Foundation, raised an estimated $20,000 for Mecklenburg’s family.

Mecklenburg was pursuing a felon when his cruiser crashed into a tree on U.S. 41 in Pasco County. He died in the hospital after the crash.  He was a husband, a father of two and an Army veteran.

The charity ride began at Ker’s WingHouse on U.S. 19, sped through the city and the Moon Lake area, onto U.S. 41 and onto County Line Road in Hernando before looping back to the WingHouse, where a large feast ensued after the ride, courtesy of the restaurant.
