Mummified Body Found In Dayton Apartment
DAYTON, Ohio – Maintenance workers at a high-rise apartment building found a partially mummified body inside an apartment on Monday morning.
The remains were found inside an apartment at Wilkinson Plaza on West Fifth Street. Authorities said the man had been dead at least six to eight weeks.
Police said David Wagner likely passed away in December, though no one noticed that he was gone.
That worries building resident John Thompson who said, “I live by myself. The same thing could happen to me.”
Dayton police reports said maintenance workers checked on Wagner Monday morning when his rent past due by two months.
The body was partially mummified, though no foul play was involved. Now, police want to know why Wagner’s body was not found sooner.
Residents think it could happen very easily.
“I think it’s hard to keep track, and then you have some people here who just don’t want to be bothered,” said Thompson.
Thompson said believes that residents could help prevent this from ever happening again.
“A lot of us neighbors don’t even speak to each other, so people living next to each other should just check and say hello,” said Thompson.
The building is managed by Dayton Metropolitan Housing Authority. Housing officials have been unavailable for comment.
