Mom: 1st Grader Son Made to Act Like Dog

October 15th, 2009 by

(MYFOX NATIONAL) - An Ohio mother is outraged and said that her first grader was forced to act like a dog in class.

Holly Casey said her 7-year-old son told her about the punishment. She said the teacher made her son get on all fours and crawl around the classroom like a dog while the other kids laughed.

“I could tell by the look on his face that something was wrong. He was almost in tears and I said, ‘What’s wrong?’” said Casey about talking to her son.

Casey said the teacher told her that her son was having behavioral problems and was just at her wits end. But Casey said it is the first she had heard of these problems.

“She basically stated, yes I did make him crawl from my desk back to his desk, and she didn’t see anything wrong with that, which I do. He’s humiliated, and he doesn’t ever want to go back to school,” said Casey.

A spokeswoman for the school said they are investigating the incident that happened on Oct. 9. But Casey said the principal of Burroughs Elementary in Toledo told her nothing will be done.

WUPW-TV reported that a Toledo public schools spokesperson said they are continuing to investigate and that education is the school district’s number one priority.

Another teacher in South Carolina was accused of putting a 6-year-old child inside a closet as a form of punishment . One parent brought the police to look into the incident.
