Miami 7-Year-Old Killed In Drive-By Shooting

April 12th, 2010 by

MIAMI – Police investigating the shooting death of a 7-year-old girl have named a person they want to question in the case.
Miami-Dade police said they want to question Israel Jean, 23, who they said has a criminal history.
Two people, including 7-year-old Jahnya Ware, were shot Friday night. The girl died at a hospital.
On Saturday, Jahnya family issued an emotional plea for help finding her killer. The girl’s mother, who was visibly distraught, was too emotional to speak.
“I was hoping it wouldn’t be as serious as it is because she was such a great young lady,” said the Rev. Joel Pratt.
Pratt said the Jahnya and her mother were members of his church.
“She was happy go lucky. She was full of life. She didn’t run around in church, she was just a nice little girl,” Pratt said.
Four people were in a Chevrolet Impala on Northwest 64th Street and First Avenue when gunfire erupted.
A 24-year-old woman riding in the front seat was also shot and was in serious condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
Two others in the car, a 3-year-old girl and an adult, were not hurt.
Miami police were investigating and searching for culprits.
“We don’t know if this vehicle was in motion as it was being shot at or that it started in motion as it was shot at,” said Miami Police Detective Willie Moreno.
Anyone with any information about this incident call Miami Police Department’s Homicide Unit at 305-603-6450 or Miami Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
