Man stabbed in the neck by ‘friend’ because he was Muslim

February 7th, 2011 by Staff — A Muslim man was stabbed in the neck by a man he had known for years when he found out his religion.

The Florida man, Bradley Kent Strott, 52, is accused of stabbing Samad Ebadi, 57, after he told him he was a Muslim during a discussion at a bar on Friday night.

Strott allegedly later said that ‘Muslims are the root of all problems’.

The men were in a tavern drinking beer in St Petersburg, Florida, and were talking about Islam, an officer’s report states.

Strott became angry and grabbed the victim by the shirt before stabbing him with a pocket knife.

Mr Ebadi’s son was working next door at the family’s convenience store when someone ran in to tell him his father had been stabbed.

He found him pale-faced and slumped over a bar stool with his shirt dark with blood.

He said: ‘Nobody was doing anything. Nobody was calling 911. It’s like they didn’t want to deal with the hassle. They didn’t care if he died right there.’

Mr Ebadi was then taken to Bayfront Medical Centre where doctors treated the wound, though no information is available about his current condition.

Strott was charged with a hate crime of aggravated battery and was held in Pinellas County Jail but was released last night on a $15,000 bond.

Strott was said to be a store regular who had known his father for years but appeared to be extremely drunk after the incident.

It was also reported that he had not seemed  to have understood what he had done.

Mr Ebadi’s son told the St Petersburg Times: ‘It was just pure hate. He attempted to murder my dad. What about the next victim, the next time this guy is drunk and someone says they’re Muslim?’
