JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Police need your help finding the person who shot and killed a man near Brentwood.
Neighbors told Channel 4′s Jason Law that the man was shot dead in broad daylight on Westlake Avenue Saturday afternoon.
“I heard two shots,” said Roland Mainor, who lives nearby. “And I thought it was over the way, across from the tracks somewhere.”
But the shooting was closer than Mainor thought. It was very close to his front yard.
“He was like on the side of the road,” said Mainor. “(He was) laid out there on his back.”
Maurice Brown, whose mother lives on the same street, said he didn’t know the man who was killed, and doesn’t know if the victim lived nearby. But he was surprised that it could happen so close to his mother’s house, in a neighborhood that he said is typically very quiet.
“It bothers us, but not to the point where you worry,” said Brown. “What can you do? You can’t pack up and move.”
Mainor said police talked to him about what he saw and heard, but detectives didn’t give him a lot of information. The neighbor said he hopes someone is arrested soon.
