Man Arrested In Sex Assault Of Woman, 91

TAMARAC, Fla. – A suspect was arrested Wednesday in connection with the sexual assault of a 91-year-old woman last month.

Chad Weiner, 38, faces charges of burglary with battery, sexual battery and kidnapping after the Nov. 19 attack.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, at about 2 a.m. that day, the 91-year-old woman woke up to find Weiner in her apartment.
The woman told police that the intruder told her, “This won’t take long,” before he bound and raped her.
Police used the word brutal to describe the crime.
“She was rather distraught. She’s 91. It was a traumatic experience,” said Detective Craig Bachan of BSO Sex Crimes.
The woman was taken to the Florida Medical Center for treatment for minor facial injuries and then to the Sexual Assault Treatment Center, according to BSO.
Police said they figured out why they found no sign of a forced entry. The woman had lost her wallet a few days earlier and had a spare house key inside.
“You have a wallet with an ID and a key, and that’s basically the connection between the two of them,” Bachan said.

BSO said Weiner apparently called the victim hours before showing up at her home. Detectives traced the call and identified Weiner, but he denied knowing anything. He did consent to a DNA swab.
A witness placed Weiner near the woman’s apartment, and the witness knew Weiner from the gym where the both worked on.

On Tuesday, BSO’s crime lab made the match between Weiner’s DNA swab and samples taken from the victim.

“To know a person at that age to go through all that kind of trauma in their own home, that’s, I think, the most egregious thing,” said BSO DNA specialist Christopher Comar.

Weiner has no criminal record. He is a chef at a local restaurant and lives with his parents about a mile away from the victim’s home.
