MERCED, CA (NBC) – A California man is being held behind bars after being accused of hiding his uncle’s death and using his ATM card.

Investigators said Merced, CA, resident Patrick Lara lived with his dead uncle for 30 days.

Authorities found the body in a bedroom.

Merced County Sheriff Mark Pazin said the home was filled with mold and the roof had collapsed.

Family members called police after Lara repeatedly turned them away from the home.

That’s when sheriff’s deputies accompanied Lara’s mother, the deceased man’s sister, into the home and found the corpse.

Lara was arrested down the street from the home.

Investigators found receipts and said Lara was spending his dead uncle’s money.
