Loveland teacher in court on child sex charges

LOVELAND, Colo. – A 31-year-old Mountain View High School teacher made her first court appearance Monday on charges of having sex with an underage male student.

Courtney Bowles, 31, was advised of the charges against her: sex assault, sex assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

She had nothing to say to reporters as she left the Larimer County courthouse Monday.

Bowles, a graduate of the University of Denver and Colorado State University, was arrested late Friday night after a police officer allegedly caught her in the act of having sex with a 16-year-old boy in a parked car at North Lake Park.

“The female was on top of the male and she quickly jumped off of the male when she saw my flashlight shining into the vehicle,” said Officer Sharon Hopkins, who filed the arrest report. “I told both subjects that I could see they were naked and they needed to get dressed and talk to me.”

According to the report, the boy initially told the officer he was 20-years-old. However, he eventually produced his Mountain View High School identification card which showed he was in the 10th grade, and confessed to being 16.

Officer Hopkins also said she found bottles of vodka and Sprite in the vehicle.

“Bowles told me she purchased the alcohol and the Sprite before picking up (the student). Bowles told me she offered (the student) a drink and he only had one sip.”

Bowles was taken into custody and booked at the Loveland Police Department.

Bowles is an “instructional coach” at Mountain View High School and a district spokesman said her role was teaching teachers about keeping a professional distance with students.

Police said their initial investigation suggests this was an isolated incident.
