Is Siri correcting people who say Bruce instead of Caitlyn?
‘How tall is Bruce Jenner? Caitlyn Jenner is 6ft 2′: Siri is correcting users who refer to the Olympic athlete by her previous name
- Apple’s voice recognition software always refers to the athlete as Caitlyn
- If the user asks about Bruce Jenner, the content of the question is changed
- One Tumblr user asked: ‘What is Bruce Jenner’s real name?’
- Siri quickly replies: ‘The full name of Caitlyn Jenner is Caitlyn Jenner’
Apple’s voice recognition program has shown it has a sense of humor, but also demonstrated a more aggressive side – when it downright insulted anyone who asked it to work out zero divided by zero.
But now it is showing itself to be a progressive software – and is correcting anyone who refers to Caitlyn Jenner as Bruce.
If users ask their iPhone or iPad about the Olympic gold-medal winning athlete, the answer will always refer to Caitlyn.
Those who say Bruce, the name she used before transitioning from male to female earlier this year, will have the content of their question changed instantly.
The change was pointed out by a Tumblr user who took screenshots of different questions they posed to their phone.
They asked: ‘What is Bruce Jenner’s real name?’
Siri’s response was: ‘The full name of Caitlyn Jenner is Caitlyn Jenner.’
They also asked: ‘How tall is Bruce Jenner?’ To which the voice recognition software replied: ‘Caitlyn Jenner is 6′ 2′ tall.’
And if you ask Siri, ‘What gender is Bruce Jenner?’ Siri tells you ‘The answer is female.’
Last month, Apple users found out what happened if you asked the simple maths question: ‘What is zero divided by zero?’
The voice assistant begins by saying that the sum doesn’t make sense before using the Cookie Monster to help explain why.
When Siri is asked the maths sum, it says: ‘Imagine that you have zero cookies and you split them evenly among zero friends.
‘How many cookies does each person get? See? It doesn’t make sense.
‘And Cookie Monster is sad that there are no cookies, and you are sad that you have no friends.’
Siri is renowned for giving sharp answers to a wide variety of questions.
For example, if a user asks Siri why the chicken crossed the road it responds: ‘Whether the chicken crossed the road or the road crossed the chicken depends on your frame of reference, according to Einstein.’
