Inmate Working At Animal Control Sneaks Woman In For Sex

OSCEOLA COUNTY, Fla. – WFTV found out an Osceola County inmate managed to sneak his girlfriend past jail guards to have sex. He was working at animal control where the county is using inmates instead of regular employees to save money.
The inmates are convicted criminals who seemed to have a lot of freedom. Somehow, two corrections officers were unable to supervise six inmates.
As a result of the incident, jail officials are considering adding cameras and security fences, making animal control eerily reminiscent of the jail.
“This was a situation where the opportunity presented itself and the inmate took it,” Osceola corrections Chief Greg Futch said.
The chief of the Osceola County jail had some tough questions to answer after inmate, Rodger Adams, admitted to having his girlfriend sneak in for sex, while working as a trustee at animal control last month.
“It’s embarrassing,” he said.
According to the incident report, the inmate was working in the back of the shelter, but neither of the corrections officers charged with looking after the inmates at shelter saw Adams disappear into the men’s room with a woman pretending to be interested in adopting a pet.
“It’s a large facility. Two people cannot cover anything and all of those inmates to insure that they are always in their sights,” Chief Futch said.
An anonymous tip helped launch the investigation.
Inmates who are low-risk and convicted of things like theft are chosen for this detail at animal control. Each work shift involves as many as eight inmates.
Now some county leaders are throwing around plans to fix the problem, including adding security cameras and special fencing at the animal control to protect the public from inmates. That could cost thousands. Or they could do away with the entire trustee program and hire back animal control workers who had been let go to save money.
Inmate Adams was originally booked in jail on burglary and grand theft charges, but now he’s lost his trustee privileges. Adams can’t use the phone or watch TV.
