Huge crowd meets Glenn Beck in Tampa

November 23rd, 2009 by TAMPA - A huge crowd gathered in Tampa Saturday for a chance to meet Fox News Channel host Glenn Beck.

The controversial conservative is on tour signing his new book and calling for smaller government.

He was met by an adoring crowd at the Borders on Dale Mabry Highway and Cypress.

The line for the book signing was a half mile long, with some people showing up before dawn.

It was a virtual love fest for Tampa Bay’s favorite son from the right.

“His honesty, his truthfulness, his telling us, the American public, what is really going on in our government. We love him to death,” said Kim Arling, a huge fan of Beck’s.

“I don’t want to say he’s our savior, but he’s pretty close. He’s not on target, he’s on bullseye,” said Bob Antoinette.

From a local talk radio show in Tampa, Beck made a meteoric rise to become one of the brightest stars in cable news opinion shows.

He’s helped organize tea parties and the 9-12 organization, some of the most vocal opposition of the Obama administration and Congress.

“This president wasn’t vetted. The things that are going on in Congress now are disgusting and everything’s being pushed through on an emergency basis, nothings being discussed,” added Bob Baker.

Beck says Florida will be his launching pad for organizing a new round of conservative initiatives.

“Florida is where it all started for us. We thought it appropriate to kick things off in Florida. There’s a few states that understand freedom and no taxes and try to reign your spending in because you’re not going with a lot of tax,” said Beck.

Later on, he held a rally at The Villages in Sumter County.

He and Fox News Channel host Bill O’Reilly will appear at the Sun Dome at USF in January.
