Hospital told mother she had MRSA ‘by sending her a text’

A furious mother has accused a hospital of telling her she had the superbug MRSA – by text message.

Stella Chukwu, 31, developed abdominal pain and bleeding several days after giving birth by Caesarean.

After a swab was sent for tests, she claims, her midwife used a text message to tell her the results.

Miss Chukwu, of Holloway, North London, was later told that her newborn daughter Zena also had the deadly superbug.

She gave birth to Zena at the Whittington Hospital in Archway in February but within days knew something was seriously wrong.

Miss Chukwu said: ‘I was still feeling loads of pain in my stomach days later. I’d had a baby before, so I knew what Caesarean pain feels like.

‘I had a shower and blood came pouring out. I knew something was wrong.’

The mother-of-two told her midwife and was prescribed antibiotics. A swab was also taken for testing.
