Hooters Waitress Claims Weight Discrimination

May 19th, 2010 by admin

ROSEVILLE, Mich. (NEWSCHANNEL 3) – A Hooters waitress on the east side of the state says her bosses told her she was getting too chunky for her uniform.

Cassie Smith claims it is weight discrimination.

She says she recently got a great evaluation from her bosses on everything except her uniform size.

Smith, who is 5-foot-8 and weighs 132 pounds, says they told her she had to shed some pounds or lose her job.

“[They] proceeded to explain to me that I had thirty days and they would give me a free gym membership and if I didn’t improve within those thirty days, I would be separated from the company. And if I improved a little bit, I would get thirty more days, and if I improved completely they would leave me alone,” said Smith.

Smith says she is actually 10 pounds lighter than when she first started at the Roseville Hooters two years ago.

The company is denying her claim, saying it doesn’t have any kind of weight requirement.
