Grandma attacked during wedding brawl

TAMPA ( A wedding reception apparently turned wild over the weekend, and ended with the groom’s father and grandmother injured and one man behind bars.

According to Tampa police, things got ugly during a Sunday evening reception at the Rusty Pelican restaurant when one of the guests complained about the groom tossing bills onto the dance floor for kids to scurry and gather. The groom and his brother confronted the unhappy guest, and police say shoving ensued.

Other guests took sides, and the incident turned into a brawl, spilling into the parking lot of the restaurant.

One victim, who was reportedly intoxicated, was knocked or fell to the ground and suffered a head injury, according to police. More fights spawned from accusations that a brick was used to injure that victim.

The first officer to arrive on the scene reported that 30 to 40 people were involved in the melee.

Eventually, the fight moved to the parking lot of the Residence Inn on Boy Scout Boulevard. Police say Malcom Anthony Hepburn armed himself with a stolen .40-caliber pistol and drove to the hotel after he got a call claiming his cousin had been hit with a brick by the groom and his brother.

Upon seeing the groom’s father and 74-year-old grandmother, police say Hepburn and his friends attacked them.

A female suspect began choking the elderly woman while the groom’s father suffered a possible broken nose and ribs, the police report indicates.

Hepburn, 30, was arrested after a brief chase. Police say he was carrying a gun that had been stolen out of Manatee County.
